The CPL Foundation Inc., in partnership with Australian Business Volunteers (ABV), has successfully concluded the CPLF–ABV Business Mentoring Program, a pilot initiative aimed at supporting women-led micro and small businesses in Papua New Guinea.
Launched in November 2024, the program was developed to provide women entrepreneurs with practical tools, guidance, and one-on-one mentoring to help grow and sustain their businesses. The initiative combined in-person training with six months of remote mentoring, led by a single Skilled Business Professional from ABV.
Six Papua New Guinean women were selected to participate in the pilot, each working closely with their mentor to strengthen their business models, set clear goals, and build confidence as entrepreneurs.
“This program reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusive economic empowerment,” said Deborah Alois, Manager of CPL Foundation Inc. “It has been a privilege to support these inspiring women as they take meaningful steps forward in their business journeys.”
The program began with a face-to-face workshop held in Port Moresby and continued with personalized mentoring sessions conducted remotely. Each session provided targeted support tailored to the individual needs of the mentees.
Zarah De La Cruz, ABV Mentor and Skilled Business Professional, shared:
“Over the past six months, I’ve seen each mentee grow in confidence and capability. Their passion and resilience have been truly inspiring — they are not just entrepreneurs, they are changemakers in their communities.”
The program officially wrapped up with a Closing Program on Friday, 11 April 2025, which featured The Pitch — where mentees presented their business journeys — followed by the presentation of certificates. The event brought together program partners, and supporters, to celebrate the achievements of the participants.
