CPL ON THE LIFESAVING ACT OF DONATING BLOOD
Long-time blood donors were honoured as part of the World Blood Donor Day celebrations today.
“CPL Group aims through its vision to make a healthier and better PNG, and we are proud to partner with the Port Moresby General Hospital (Pom Gen), The National Department of Health, World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centre for Transfusion for this momentous occasion in appreciating our donors who have been donating blood for a long time.
Blood donation is a noble act, and your generosity will save lives. If we have a blood bank well supplemented with blood, we will not have to go through the process of hosting blood donation drives. I encourage more people to come forward and donate blood as you are going to save lives” said Mr Navin Raju- CPL Group’s CEO.
The theme of the World Blood Donor Day is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”
It is recognised by the WHO that blood donation stands to save lives, promotes healthy living, and awareness of the act of civic duty for volunteers to pledge their blood for blood banks in hospitals and health centres.
On hand to commemorate the day was the Pom Gen’s Director for Medical Services, Dr Kone Sobi.
“We all carry blood which is a precious commodity. The act of donating blood is free as you are not charged for donating We collect 10, 000 blood donations every year. For the last two years, donations were lower than expected due to COVID-19 restrictions. I would like to encourage people to come forward,
donate blood and save lives. Blood donations will come from our citizens who would like to contribute to the positive development of PNG through health services such as blood transfusions,” said Dr Sobi, Director for Medical Services at Port Moresby General Hospital.
The event later saw long-time blood donors acknowledged through an awards ceremony, and a public awareness on the benefits of donating blood.
