Cpl Group Commends Sports Awards Winners

RETAIL CHAIN CONGRATULATES PARA ATHLETES

CPL Group has congratulated para athletes, Steven Abraham winner, first runner up, Haoda Agari, and second runner up, Judy Moi on their win at the SP Sports Awards in the category of “CPL Best Sports Person with a Disability.”

CPL Group champions a value on “Winning together” and by sponsoring this category, we recognise the efforts to make sports an inclusive space for national sporting heroes” said Mr Navin Raju – CPL Group’s CEO.

Both gentlemen are Silver medallists in para track even of the ambulant 100m sprints and table tennis, respectively, from the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, whilst Ms Moi participated in two Special Olympics in 2015 and 2019 where she competed in shotput and 100 meter sprints.

Mr Abraham, the winner, is limb deficient from his left arm after it was amputated following an incident on a boat trip at Manubada Island in 2012.
“I am grateful for this award and to the CPL Group for sponsoring this award.

Being a person with a disability did not stop me from pursuing my goals,” said Mr Abraham (awardee).

Mr Abraham is also a silver and bronze medallist from the 2017 Arafura Games. He is currently a first year business student at Limana Vocational Centre in Port Moresby.

“For someone who lost their arm in the sea, you’d think I should never return to it.

But my people are salt water people, and our homes and families depend on this vast resource for life that I grew up around- I love the sea!” beamed Mr Abraham.

Meanwhile, CPL Group continues to support services towards sports and community development.

“ We are proud to support the PNG Sports Foundation, the Cheshire homes, halfway homes and now the SP Sports awards.This is our contribution to making a better and inclusive PNG,” added Mr Raju.
