The Government of Papua New Guinea and Provincial Authorities must establish a more effective consultation process with local businesses before making decisions that significantly impact the businesses.
For instance, the sudden announcement of public holidays or liquor trading restrictions, made without proper consultation, can have severe economic consequences. These decisions often result in significant losses for businesses, yet there seems to be little consideration given to their impact.
While we understand the rationale behind such decisions, it is crucial that businesses are given sufficient notice to mitigate the losses or plan accordingly.
By engaging in meaningful consultation with the business community, the government can better understand the potential impact of its decisions and take steps to minimize any adverse effects on the economy.
