CPL Foundation representative, Mr Ajay Patel, with Executive Officer of Buk bilong Pikinini, Ms Leanne Reeson being presented the generous donation

With education and empowerment being the main missions of the Foundation.

“This relationship started 5 years ago with an education partner that is doing great work in the community especially on Tatana Island where we sponsor the community library.

We are pleased to announce this sponsorship and support early childhood education and reading. Reading is an important skill, and children must be taught this because it is a lifelong skill vital to solving problems,” said Sir Mahesh Patel- Chairperson of the CPL Foundation and Founder of the CPL Group.

The sponsorship of K86,500 will cover the recurrent costs of running the Library while Buk bilong Pikinini will promote the partnership and allow for extra-curricular activities for students to be run in conjunction with the leading Retailer’s charity.

“We are extremely grateful to Sir Mahesh Patel and the amazing CPL Foundation for their long-term support for Buk bilong Pikinini. Providing young children with solid foundations in literacy from a young age has a direct impact on their performance at school as being literate enables you to better understand all other subjects.

Children who have been enrolled in our program come to school armed with great skills in literacy, numeracy and general knowledge. Thanks to support from the CPL health nurses, the

children also have a good understanding of health and hygiene which will serve them for a lifetime. Thank you CPL,” said Ms Sophie-Anne Hermann- Buk bilong Pikinini Founder

The library learning centre in Tatana has now become the feeder school for the Tatana Primary school. Over the five years of the sponsorship, more than 700 children have successfully gone through their early childhood education program. This represents a 30% increase.

The charitable foundation has designed outreach programs to run in synergy with the Buk bilong Pikinini programs where they run sessions on health and hygiene and recognises that healthy habits come from peer pressure.
